What makes a town a place that you can call home? A pleasant all year climate? Educational and employment opportunities? Affordable housing? Quality of life?
According to Sperling’s “Best Places” guide Kingman averages eight inches of rain annually. That is comparison to a national average of thirty-eight inches. The average annual snowfall is zero. Still, you can expect a dusting of snow each winter – on rare occasions. You can also expect it to have melt by the next day.
To adjust that climate, a drive of less than fifty miles is all that is needed. Hualapai Mountain Park is just twelve miles away. Summer or winter this pine forested desert oasis is ten or even twenty degrees cooler than Kingman. And thirty five miles to the west, the Colorado River Valley is always ten to twenty degrees warmer.
Educational and employment opportunities abound in Kingman, Arizona. Established as the Kingman Army Airfield during WWII, the Kingman Industrial Park at the airport is growing. A diverse array of companies current operate facilities at the complex.
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Mohave Community College offers a diverse array of classes. They can accommodate student transfer or provide classes for career and technical education.
The community education programs offered are equally as diverse. To foster an increased awareness of Kingman history, a walking tour of the Route 66 corridor in the historic business district is scheduled for November 16. Retained as the guide is author and historian Jim Hinckley, creator of the Jim Hinckley’s America network. This is an example of how the college works to foster a sense of community and community purpose.

Kingman is located at the center of the longest remaining uninterrupted section of iconic Route 66. Enthusiasts from throughout the world consider this to also be the most scenic 160 miles of that highway.
A diverse array of events held throughout the year give Kingman a comfortable, small town America feel even though it is a fast growing community. Chillin on Beale, held on the third Saturday afternoon of each month, April through October, is just one example.
The event that centers on the city’s rich car culture transforms the historic business district into a rolling car show. But there is also live music and other activities, all of which are best enjoyed from sidewalk seating at one of the award winning microbreweries or restaurants.
There is another reason that Kingman is a great place to call home. It is centrally located to, well, just about everything you can imagine. California beaches are just 365 miles to the west. Dynamic Las Vegas is 100 miles to the north. World class entertainment is offered at the Laughlin casinos on the Colorado River 35 miles to the west. And Phoenix is 180 miles to the south.
